What the YouTube logo is
The YouTube logo has two parts: the icon, a red rounded rectangle with a white play triangle, and the word “YouTube” set next to it. The icon also works on its own, which is how it appears as the app icon and on most “watch on YouTube” buttons.
The rounded shape comes from the old logo. From 2005 to 2017 the word “Tube” sat inside a red box shaped like a television screen. In 2017 YouTube pulled that shape out of the wordmark, put a play triangle in it, and moved it to the front.
